Hey Folks!

Yes, it's been a while since we've had a proper update. We've been busy in the shop knocking out some pretty random projects!

We're thinking of changing our name to Metalbox Design and Fabrication, as we're starting to pick up some custom work. We love to sit down with folks and sketch out ideas with them... but not as much as we love to see them come to life! Here's some things we've been working on.

If you have an idea you'd like us to help you design and build, give us a shout! We would love to hear from you.

Welding Table
We built this one for ourselves, we needed it!
Its burly, and adjustable.
Here's a breakdown on what it consists of;
We used 3" square tubing for the legs, plugged the ends with 1/4" plate (with a 1" hole), and welded in some 1" steel hardware. The nut inside the leg, and the bolt welded to a 3"x 3/8" disc, makes for a foot with about an inch of adjust ability for leveling. We left two wrench flat on each nut un-welded so it's able to adjust under load with a crescent wrench. The cross supports are 2" square, and we used a 4' x 6' sheet of 3/8" cold rolled steel for the top. It turned out great. Hard part was flipping it over!

Distillery
We've had the opportunity to work with a local distillery on a few projects, this one was creating a false bottom for their mash tun.
This all had to be Stainless Steel, so we used 3/32" perforated sheet.
We laid out our diameter, marked the bolt holes and cut it out with the plasma gun. Turns out you have to clamp some solid sheet to the back to get a constant arc! Who knew?

We mounted studs to a cross brace, and ripped our disc right down the middle. We had a certain amount of space to get the false bottom in the mash tun through the main port, so everything had to be under 16".

Once in, it is easily assembled with 3/8" SS nuts and lock washers.

A new agitation paddle was needed to accommodate the new dimensions of the mash tun false bottom. We fabricated this from 1 1/2" SS Sch 40 pipe, and 3" x 1/4" SS bar.

The finished product, a fully functional false bottom for a distillery mash tun, optimized for grain.
